A thank you from the Festival Co-Directors – 2014

The premier Kampala International Theatre Festival has come to a successful end. During a period of five days, theatre lovers and goers were able to consume and enjoy theatrical performances through multiple alternative lenses. Throughout the festival theatre was showcased in an “out of the box” manner, with alternative formats and in alternative spaces. With this approach, called revolutionary by some, we hope to have raised the appetite for theatre among many, old and new fans, and to have paved a way for a new era for theatre in Uganda and East Africa. We are grateful for the many positive responses and reviews that we received. Yet we realize we have just started our journey. We therefore welcome your further feedback so as to perfect subsequent festival editions. And we welcome any further interested partners and supporters to come on board and assist us in turning the Kampala International Theatre Festival into an annual celebration of theatre and Kampala into an important hub for theatre creativity and innovation.

A successful first edition would not have been possible without our partners and supporters, artists and volunteers. We therefore thank Sundance Institute, Alliance Francaise Kampala, Institut Francais, USA for Africa, the Norwegian Embassy Uganda, DOEN Foundation, the Uganda National Cultural Centre, Proggie.UG, Guide2Uganda and The Pearl Magazine for their support. And we thank our artists and volunteers because their commitment to this venture was the deciding factor in making this first edition revolutionary.

Let the journey continue!
