My name is Isabirye Godfrey Mitch Jr. an author, writer, poet, spoken word artist, and Environmentalist from Uganda. I started my craft in late 2017 but professionally in early 2018 performing on couple of poetry platforms and stages in and out of Kampala. Started out my first poetry performance when I was presented with an opportunity to perform on a poetry platform dubbed Tontoma supported by 32°Arts Trust later moved to Kelele a poetry platform organized by students from Makerere University Kampala an avenue to allow students express themselves.

In 2018 worked with Spoken Word Uganda that used to host monthly poetry slams and later that year I won my first poetry slam in March that year. Given my academic background, I was availed with an opportunity to perform at the Earth Hour celebrations in Uganda where I became an ambassador and still perform with them every time Earth hour annual celebrations are hosted. I use poetry as a tool for social change and environmental justice.

In 2018 around April was chosen among the few poets to perform at an event organized by the Pan African Women association to commemorate the demise of the Late Winnie Madikizela Mandela. Later on, in mid-2018 I embraced on a journey to diversify my craft from writing and performing only in English to including two more local dialects Luganda and Lusoga respectively. In August 2018 I joined a poetry group called Kitara Nation which later introduced me to theatre poetry. I was humbled to be part of the cast for the production titled “Arrest the Poem” that which was chosen to represent Uganda at the Kampala International Theater Festival that was held at the Uganda Museum

In the same year, I later collaborated with Open Mic Uganda on a project supported by Public Health Uganda where I later became an Ambassador and I keep performing at their different symposiums held in Uganda to address issues affecting youth in the country. In 2019 almost a year in professional poetry I decided to take a break away from theater poetry because it was so demanding however I decided to concentrate on performing on a few shows. Later that year in March I had my first one man-show dubbed Nzhe a Lusoga phrase that translates into ME where I was supported by a local Afro-soul artist called Andereya Baguma which was organized by a Christian poetry platform called Ekigambo. I kept working under Kitara Nation travelling to different school and community tours and later in 2019 performed with the group at the famous Bayimba International Arts Festival.

I have performed at StoneFest 2022, Vumbula Uganda Festival 2022, Afrozilla Festival 2022 and I released my EP dubbed Endha in June 2022 and currently focusing on producing my own Poetry show called Mitchz Manifest which happens every four months.
